A PHOTOGRAPHIC competition is aiming to highlight the beauty of a village as it strengthens its links with a twin town.

The Burnham Village Twinning Association has launched its summer photo competition with the theme ‘aspects of Burnham’.

The aim is to take the best pictures of the village, with the images used for a display at an exhibition centre in St Denis de l’Hotel in France, Burnham’s twin town, in the autumn.

David Pepler, chairman of the Burnham Village Twinning Association, said: “We have done two competitions previously. For the first one, people in St Denis sent their photos to us, which were displayed in Burnham Library.

“Last time we had between 20 and 25 entrants, and we are hoping to get more this time. Hopefully the keen photographers in Burnham will enter.”

The winning photographers will get £30 for first place, £20 for second and £10 for third.

Members of the twinning association will visit the town in the Loire Valley in north-central France in August to deliver the photographs, and they will be returned in November as the association revisits St Denis for a Remembrance Day service.

St Denis residents will be able to vote for their favourite images, picking the top three, before the photographs are returned to Burnham for a display in Burnham Library in Windsor Lane after the trip in November.

Burnham and St Denis de l’Hotel have been twinned for three years after the association was established in 2013, and was the brain child of Jean-François Raffestin, who wanted to link his community to one in England.

The closing date for entries is Friday, August 12. All pictures should be A4 size, and a maximum of three photos can be submitted.

It costs £2 to enter a photo or £5 for three photos to cover the cost of standardised mounting and postage.

You can enter at Burnham Library or Burnham Park in Windsor Lane. For more information, call ontact vice chairman Muriel Pepler on 01628 663593.
