Police are urging visitors to Legoland Windsor to check the photos from their trip after two six-year-old girls were sexually assaulted in a play area.

The two girls were touched "inappropriately" by a man on Thursday, August 11, Thames Valley Police have said.

The incident took place at Castaway Camp in Pirate Shores, which is a themed play area, between 12.15 and 12.30pm.

Legoland Windsor has said its staff have been left shocked by the incident.

The man is not known to the victims and was described as white, in his teens or early twenties and possibly under 5ft 8ins.

He was wearing dark-coloured slim fitting trousers, a dark-coloured T-shirt, and trainers, police said.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Penny Mackenzie of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “Today we are appealing for the public’s help to find the offender who sexually assaulted two young girls at Legoland.

“I would ask anyone who visited the Legoland Windsor Resort yesterday, especially if you went to Castaway Camp in Pirate Shores, to check any photographs from your trip to see if you recognise anyone matching the offender.

“Also, if you recognise the offender’s description or have some other information, no matter how insignificant you think it is, we want to hear from you.

“I would like to reassure the local community and visitors to Legoland that such offences are extremely rare and that we are working closely with Legoland to identify the suspect."

A Legoland Windsor spokesperson said: "On Thursday the Legoland Windsor Resort team were alerted to an alleged assault that took place in the Castaway Camp playground.

"Our team members acted swiftly and the Thames Valley Police were immediately called.

"The safety and security of the families enjoying a day out with us is our number one priority. We are now working closely with the police in assisting them with their investigation. Nothing of this nature has ever taken place at the resort before and we are deeply shocked by the incident."

The police said anyone with information should email URN615@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk with the information they have and a contact telephone number. Alternatively you can call 101 quoting reference number URN 705 12/08.
