SLOUGH’S central library is to lend its last book on Saturday before closing its doors for the final time.

Slough Library, built in 1974, will close ahead of the opening of The Curve on Friday, September 2.

Library services will be joining community learning and cultural activities at the new £22m centre.

Councillor Joginder Bal, Slough Borough Council commissioner for environment and leisure, said: “In the past 42 years, what is needed from a library has both changed and stayed the same.

“The Curve will be bringing the library service into the modern world whilst retaining the traditional lending, children’s activities and customer service which are the foundation of any great library.

“Slough Library has served us well for four decades but now it is time to close its doors and welcome library visitors to a brand new facility.”

The closure of the library will facilitate the moving of thousands of books, CDs, DVDs and more to the new site ahead of the opening.
