Baylis Court School posted its best results for several years, and pupil progress at St Joseph's Catholic High School continued to excel.

St Joseph's headteacher Ciran Stapleton said: "I am absolutely delighted. The kids have done amazingly. It is the best results we have ever had in the biggest sixth form we have ever had.

"More than anything else it is the progress that the students have made since they came to the school.

"It will put us up in the top percentage in the country in terms of progress."

Grammar schools in the area also posted good scores, with a record high number of pupils at Burnham Grammar School achieving A* or A grades, and the number of pupils achieving top grades at Herschel Grammar School rising from last year.

There were also positive changes to the trends at Langley and St Bernard's Grammar schools, with pupils at Beechwood School matching the results of last year's students.

John Constable, headteacher at Langley Grammar, said: "We are delighted with the results gained by our Year 13 students.

"The headline figures represent around a five per cent increase on last year's outcomes against a background of increasingly tightened standards nationally.

"The grades are a testament to our students' motivation and hard work, together with the dedicated support of our staff. We would like to congratulate each and every student on their success and wish them well in the future."
