A PROPOSAL to "tear the heart out of Slough" has been met with hostility as government looks to transfer a central Slough ward to Windsor.

Chalvey could be classed as part of the Windsor constituency if the Boundary Commission proposals are approved.

The commission published its report this week in how to equal out the number of constituents in each area so to reduce the number of parliamentary seats from 650 to 600.

Slough MP Fiona Mactaggart has blasted the idea.

She said: “This is an offensive plan which is an assault on the town I am proud to represent. This proposal is a careless ‘fix’ for a Windsor problem that damages the integrity of Slough and will almost certainly leave Chalvey residents with a parliamentary representative lacking a clear understanding of their needs and local issues."

Windsor MP Adam Afriyie said he would be "honoured" to serve residents of Chalvey if the plans are approved and he is re-elected at the next general election in 2020.

A public consultation has been launched on the proposed changes, which are due to come into effect in September 2018. The consultation runs until December 5. Visit www.bce2018.org.uk
