MOTORISTS have been warned to expect additional delays on the Langley stretch of the A4 because of ongoing bus lane works.

Resurfacing works, which began today, will take place on the A4 London Road between Upton Court Road and Cedar Way for around three weeks.

Although the road won’t be closed during the works, lane flow and direction will be affected.

For two or three days from October 24, the carriageway will be reduced to allow for only single alternate line traffic between 9.30am and 3.30pm. A traffic light system will be in operation.

The work is being carried out as part of phase one of a year-long project to deliver the Slough Mass Rapid Transit (SMaRT) rapid bus service from Slough Trading Estate to Langley.

The eastern section of the scheme is expected to be complete by early January 2017.

Work on the western stretch – between Slough Trading Estate and the town centre – is scheduled to start after Christmas.

Councillor Fiza Matloob, commissioner for highways and transport at Slough Borough Council, said: “We appreciate roadworks aren’t popular but we’re asking people to consider the long-term benefits.

“The work we’re doing now will allow for quicker, more frequent and more reliable buses along the A4, helping to encourage people out of their cars and onto public transport.

“The A4 is used by around 20,000 motorists each day and if more people leave their cars at home more often, opting for buses instead, congestion will reduce.

“The buses will also be hybrid, meaning they’ll pump out less fumes and make less noise.”
