PLANS have been put forward for a care home for the elderly to replace a struggling car dealership in Farnham Common.

Grove Court Properties has brought forward plans for the potential redevelopment of the Haymill garage and car dealership in Beaconsfield Road.

It would provide an 80-bedroom care home for the elderly, which "could make a valuable contribution towards fulfilling the identified need for new elderly care home provision in the local area".

The garage is operated by the Hughes Group, which is owned by the same company as Grove Court Properties - Hughes of Beaconsfield Holdings Ltd.

The current dealership and garage operations at the site are in decline closure of the business is being considered.

Geoff Williams, Managing Director of Grove Court Properties, said: "Although no final decisions have been made about the current business on the site, if it does have to close, we believe that a new care home could make a valuable contribution to the local area, by responding to an identified local need for new care home places, provide around 80 new job opportunities and deliver an attractive building on the site.

"We welcome the views of the local community on the proposals and would encourage as many local people as possible to come along to the public consultation event."

People can share their views and ask questions at the public consultation event from 4-8pm on Friday at Farnham Common Sports Club in One Pin Lane.
