A SLOUGH store manager completed a cycling challenge to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

James Chapman, store manager at Marks and Spencer in Bath Road, completed a 160 mile bike ride with other M&S managers to raise £16,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The ride took them around the M&S southern region, including 24 branches, with James Gamble, M&S Alton store manager, helping Mr Chapman to organise the event.

Mr Chapman said: “I decided to organise the 160 mile bike ride event, alongside James Gamble, as cycling is a huge passion of ours and, feeling motivated by the Rio Olympics, we thought this was an excellent way to fundraise for such a worthy cause. We are overjoyed to have exceeded our target of £10,000 and would like to thank everybody that donated, got involved and supported us.”

Colleagues including Gordon Scott, Head of Region, Tom Herriven, Store Performance Planner at Head Office and Katie Pycroft, Foods Manager at M&S Waterlooville also took part in the ride.

Nicola Keith, Head of Partnership Management at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Each year we are astounded by the nation’s fundraising efforts and this year our expectations have been exceeded yet again. I would like to personally thank every single person who has helped make this year another great success, by visiting their local M&S, hosting their own coffee morning, or indeed cycling 160 miles to fundraise for Macmillan."
