SLOUGH boxing sensation John Brennan has spoken of his new-found love for the sport ahead of his return to the ring.

“The Don” was last seen recording a points victory over Lithuanian, Deividas Sajauka, at York Hall in April of this year.

Brennan, 31, has since split with Jim Evans to join Joe Pyle and will make his comeback on the undercard at Tolworth III on October 29.

The super welterweight explained that the break from Evans was needed for the benefit of his career, before backing himself to return with a win.

“I’ve known Joe for some time and he stood out to me,” Brennan told the Observer. “The gym is state of the art and there are a number of trainers about to vary the pad work and for one-on-one sessions to iron out any creases. Not change me radically but brush up where I need to.

“There are a couple of possible opponents but I don’t pay too much attention to that sort of thing. The fight is there for me to get bedded into my new camp and surroundings.

“I am confident that I’m going to roll through my opponent and win the fight. I am in a happy place in and out of the ring and loving my boxing at the minute. Hopefully I will get the win and then push on for a title.

“I have got a new manager and train at a new gym, and I’ve been really happy about the build-up to my next fight.

“I’ve been really happy with the training and feel on point, and there’s still two weeks to go. It has been one of the best camps I’ve had in a long while.”

Commenting on the split with Evans, the Slough fighter said: “I didn’t feel that Jim was working to my best interests. Jim is very old school and that’s not to say he’s wrong but his ways are out of touch with the modern boxing game.

“But, it is what it is and life goes on. I’m not in it for the money because it isn’t life-changing. I do it for the accolades and it’s something my kids will enjoy.”

Brennan will return to the scene of his first career professional win at the Tolworth Recreation Centre.

He now trains at the Moor Lane Boxing Club in Staines with his trainer, Gary Dawson.
