PARENTS have been told to expect traffic as work is set to begins on to make way for a new leisure facility in Slough.

The Centre, a 20-year-old building in Farnham Road, Slough, has been closed since November last year and will be demolished from Saturday, January 14 to clear the way for the new leisure centre.

With the start of the demolition, The car park at the Centre will be shut for all-day parking from Monday, January 9 with a small zone being open for school drop off and pick up for nearby schools Herschel Grammar, and Eden Girls and The Centre Nursery.

This is expected to cause traffic and Slough Borough Council is advising have warned parents to use alternative transport or park nearby and walk. Access to the school drop off areas will be off Whitby Road and Buckingham Avenue.

Councillor Joginder Bal, for leisure and environment, said: “Every school parent knows the school run and parking around schools can be horrendous and for at least the next year the car park of the old Centre will not be available.”

“The safety of the children is our utmost concern and we would encourage parents of young people at Herschel and Eden to look now at their school routine and consider alternatives to dropping their children off, by car, right by the gates.”

The new build by Slough Urban Renewal will include an eight-lane swimming pool, poolside sauna and steam room, a gym and a four-court sports hall.
