NEW images have been released of how Slough’s new ice rink should look when it is complete.

Work has yet to begin on the actual refurbishment and extension of the site in Montem Lane, Slough, because the old rink is still in the process of being decommissioned after its closure in late October last year.

Surveys on the building structures and the ice pad were carried out in November and December, and additional surveys on the 30-year-old building are under way to identify any work that will need to be done during the refurbishment.

The new facility is expected to include a new ice rink, new changing rooms and toilets, new spectator seating and lighting, a new gym and a café.

Major Construction work is expected to start in April, and the ice arena will be re-opened in a phased way with the rink expected to be complete in November 2017 and the new extension in early 2018.

Councillor Joginder Bal, commissioner for leisure and environment, said: “The Ice Arena has been tired and run down for too long but With this major investment we will be bringing it right up to modern standards, providing an improved outside area, improved atmosphere with quality facilities for everyone.”
