STANLEE Wilson insists there is nothing between he and Christian Evans despite a second defeat to his rival.

Having been beaten in a bare-knuckle boxing world title fight in December, Wilson was boxing for payback when the pair clashed again in Wales.

The Slough sensation took the fight on at short notice and lost on a points decision and, though he has no qualms about the result, is not putting Evans in a different league.

Wilson, 31, told the Observer: “It wasn’t my fight. I’m not making any excuses and half knew I wasn’t going to get the points win. I wasn’t active enough but it happens in the fight game.

“There is no two-ways about it, it was definitely the right result. I was just not active enough. He landed the better shots so I’ve no qualms about the decision.

“If I had a full training cam the fight might have been a little different but that’s the fight game. Someone has got to win and someone must lose.

“Christian had my number, definitely, but I still think we’re very evenly matched. He is a bit more experienced but I’m not saying he’s in another league.”

Wilson will revert back to bare knuckle boxing for his next fight, against Stuart Maddox at the SkyDome Arena in Coventry on Saturday April 22.

The Slough ace will have to lose around two stone to compete as a middleweight but has explained it is a move that has been on his mind.

He said: “I have been leaning toward dropping down for a while and now I’ve been matched with a middleweight, it has given me the kick up the backside I needed.

“I’m coming down in weight so there’s a lot of training to do, but if it was easy then everyone would be doing it.

“It will make me a better fighter because I’m not against people six-feet six-inches tall. I will be fighting people my height.

“I’m actually quite excited about it because it’s an opportunity to get myself out there.

“I believe Stuart has had one bare knuckle fight and won, so it’s going to be a very tough but entertaining fight.”
