JON UNDERWOOD has admitted Slough Town had to suffer “one of those nights” after a 2-1 defeat at Cinderford Town on Tuesday.

The Rebels missed the chance to go second in the league table when their four-match winning steak came to an end in midweek.

Craig Norman gave Cinderford a first-half lead but Mark Nisbet levelled the scores early on in the second period.

Cinderford are bottom of the table and fighting for survival, and they were not to be denied as Elliott Ford bagged the winning goal.

The night got worse for Slough when Lee Togwell was shown a straight red card, but Underwood is generally happy with their performance if not their finishing at the Causeway Ground.

“We’re very disappointed with the run we were on to go an lose but from a performance point of view I have no complaints at all,” Rebels’ joint-manager told the Observer.

“We approached the game really well and played well.

“It just ended up being one of those nights.

“Sometimes you don’t get what you deserve in football and I thought we were unlucky on Tuesday.

“You’ve got to take your chances but at 0-0, if we had gone in front, we would have been comfortable.

“We dominated possession in their half and dealt with their pace up front, which only became a threat when we chased the game.

“Cinderford scored a minute before half-time but we came out and got the equaliser and at that point I felt there was only one team that was going to win.

“They scored a brilliant second goal, out of nothing really, and there was very little we could do about it.”

Underwood continued: “I’m disappointed but had we gone there, not approached the game well and not performed well, I would be more disappointed. I’m not unhappy with the performance at all.

"My only criticism is that we didn’t take our chances. Had we got the three points we could be sitting here second in the league now.”

Slough go to Dorchester Town on Saturday (3pm) where Underwood expects a tough scrap. He said: “They will throw their bodies on the line so it will not be an easy game but we need to get something out of it.”
