SLOUGH Lions have won the Mary Wells Memorial Trophy this season following a 3-2 win after extra time in the final against Phoenix Old Boys.

The Lions had keeper and man-of-the-match Jusvir Garcha to thank for a number of important saves at Holloways Park last Friday.

Khoury Taylor and Gurpreet Bansal were on target in normal time, before Sukraj Malhi slotted the winning penalty after a foul on Pritpal Raju in extra time.

Slough secretary Joginder Dohil told the Observer: “I was full of excitement and pride.

“It’s an amazing achievement for the club and everyone was on such a high because they worked so hard as a team. That showed in our celebrations at the end.

“We were overjoyed with the outcome, especially for the new management team, who have worked so hard with the players. To gain some silverware straight away is massive and such a great boost for the club.

“At the end, we were buzzing and excited, and want to keep on going for the rest of the season now.”

Dohil continued: “It was such a thrilling game with chances at either end. It was a nerve-racking thriller because you didn’t know what was going to happen.

“It was back to the walls stuff for us in the end because they had chances to nick it. We were glad to get the 90 minutes over with and have a word with the players before extra-time.

“We told them not to waste this opportunity and they dug deep to get the win. I think either team could have won but we just about deserved it.

“We’ve got to give credit to our keeper. If it wasn’t for him we would have lost. He was definitely our man of the match and at the end everyone went up to him because he kept us in the game.”

Slough are currently second in Division Two, two points behind leaders Phoenix, and Dohil is targeting the league and cup double this season.

He said: “We've got six games left and want to win the league as well, that's the aim now. The players are hungry and ready to go and win more, win the league.

“Everyone will want to beat us now so we've got to turn up for every game. They are six cup finals but it's in our hands.

“Next year we want to push on and see what happens. The management are getting their philosophy into the players and the image of the club out there."
