KIDS stepped up to the mark to raise hundreds of pounds on Red Nose Day for good causes.

Children at Cippenham Primary School in Elmshott Lane were asked to come into school on Friday dressed in something red and donating a pound each.

The kids had already bought their own red noses and raised over £500 for BBC Comic Relief on the day.

Meanwhile, more than 400 children at St Ethelbert’s Catholic Primary School in Wexham Road, Slough came into school with funky hairstyles in a bid to raise cash.

Teachers sent the children home with a number of recommended styles to help them out but many turned up on Friday anyway with their own. In return they donated a pound.

Sinead O’Leary, administrator at the school said: “There were activities in their classes throughout the day. Everyone, even the teachers took part and made a donation.

“There were quite a few creative hairstyles.”

And at Sainsbury’s in Farnham Road, Slough, firefighters from the town’s White Watch turned up with a fire engine to help raise money for Comic Relief.

The firefighters posed for pictures with kids and families in the engine in return for donations to the cause. They helped the store raise more than £1,000 in total.

Diana Humphreys, spokesperson for the store, said: “They left only to go on emergency calls but came back and raised more money.”

“It was fantastic - everyone enjoyed it and having their photos taken.”

Overall more than £71 million was raised across the country on March 24.
