Putting out fires with hoses is one thing.
But Slough firefighters were attacking a different enemy on Saturday when they blasted the dirt and grime that had built up on peoples' cars with good old soap and water.
Car washes are always popular when firefighters organise them. So there was no shortage of people queueing to get into the forecourt at Slough fire station as the guys got ready with the buckets and sponges.
It was all in aid of the Firefighters Charity of course and the men raised £5,300 - thanks to their own efforts and a donation from Barclays Bank, who matched what members of the public had given during the day.
Watch manager Darren Wilkins said: "We did not have any call outs during the day. So we were able to focus on the cars. People kept on coming in all day.
"We thoroughly enjoyed it and the day went really well.
"It got very wet despite being a sunny day."
