Friends of Slough Canal will be holding their annual voluntary cleanup of the town's waterway on Saturday.

They will be getting together at 9am at the Salvation Army Hall, Stoke Road. All volunteers are welcome.

The aim is to clear the towpath of litter from the canal basin in Stoke Road to Mansion Lane bridge, Iver. A safety briefing will be given at the start and a light buffet meal will be provided for volunteers at lunch time.

On the same day, Canal and River Trust volunteers will be tidying the eastern end of the Slough Canal from Cowley to Mansion Lane, meeting the Friends party at the end point so the whole five mile length will be given a 'spring clean'.

The group's annual meeting will be held in the lounge at St. Paul's Church, Slough (just south of the canal basin) starting 10.30am on Saturday, May 6. Following the official business members and visitors will hear a talk by Chris Chadwell (plant and travel photographer) on 'Wild Flowers of the Slough Canal'.

The group is currently co-operating with the Canal and River Trust (owners of the Slough Canal) and Slough Urban Regeneration regarding redevelopment of the basin area as a destination for boaters, ramblers, nature students and other visitors.
