Two Slough GP surgeries have been rated as “good” following a recent inspection.

The Care Quality Commission visited Ragstone Road Surgery in February this year where inspectors said the practice had improved following its “requires improvement rating” following an assessment in June 2016.

Farnham Road Surgery was scrutinised in January this year and was praised for its “compassion dignity and respect” towards patients and “clear leadership and structure”.

The practice, based in Farnham Road, was rated “outstanding” in the “responsive” category and was hailed for providing drug and alcohol and prescription services to registered patients and those from other surgeries.

The report for Farnham Road, which was published on March 17, stated: “Specifically it is rated good for the provision of safe, effective, caring and well led services and outstanding for delivery of responsive services.

“Risks to patients were assessed and well managed. Staff assessed patients’ needs and delivered care in line with current evidence based guidance…

“Patients said they found it easy to make an appointment, there was continuity of care. Urgent appointments were available the same day and appointments were offered on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.”

Ragstone Road Surgery was recognised for improving its communication with patients in promoting health screening – which saw cervical smear rates increase compared to previous years - however they still remained below the national average.

The report, published on March 23, stated: “The practice had increased their communication with patients being offered health screening to improve uptake.

“They had asked the patient participation group to update the practice newsletter and promote patient engagement in their health.

“Cervical smear rates had increased from previous years, but remained below the local and national average.”

The surgery was advised to continue reviewing patient feedback and work to “improve satisfaction reports” and promote patient screening and health reviews.

Chief inspector of general practice, Professor Steve Field, said: “After reporting on more than 6,000 inspections we have found that most care is good – with over 200 practices now rated Outstanding.

“That means that over 1 million patients in England currently receive care from practices which we have rated Outstanding.”
