LANGLEY Galaxy Sunday have reached the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup final this season after a 4-2 win against Kukui.

The Thames Valley League club emerged victorious in the semi-final at Harvey Park thanks to a Gary Ashton hat-trick and a goal from Igor Vaneski.

Langley manager Scott Bright told the Observer that a return to their old formula was the key to the win, and he hopes Galaxy can go on to lift the cup.

“We chopped and changed things two weeks ago for the Real Milan games but went back to what we knew, shape and personnel-wise, and it paid off,” said Bright.

“Everyone was up for it and wanted to bounce back from the Milan losses. We completely dominated the game and I thought Kukui would be better than they were.

“They said they were missing a few players but we did a job.

“We came cane out all guns blazing, went 3-0 at half-time, and picked up again in the last 10 minutes.

“I thought Kukui would be a lot better but credit to them, they got to a cup semi-final.”

Langley will play BT Coatings in the final on Sunday, April 23 (11am). Bright added: “If you’re in the final you’ve got the chance to win the competition.

“In the beginning, we were taking it as it comes but now that we’re in the final, you’ve got to try to win it.

“At the start we wanted to see how far we could go and we’ve done very well.

“We will try to get over and watch the opposition.”

The season could be memorable for Langley, who are favourites to win Division One, and welcome FC Bentons in the Ken Gomm Challenge Cup semi-finals this Sunday (10.30am).

Bright said: "We have a chance at the league and maybe one cup. We will now look to get to at least two finals.

"We know what we need now (to win the league), if we lose a couple we can get beaten to the league.

"We drew with Foresters and they shook our hands after, saying we had won it, but it's not done yet.

"The midweek games will get tough but I think we're the favourites. We will pack in the midweek games but we may have a problem fielding a side."

He added: "I'm hoping they (Bentons) might be a little tired and we might have the edge on them."
