BUDDING mathematicians engaged their brains in Langley recently as they geared up to take part in national challenges.

Almost 30 youngsters from secondary schools in Slough and Langley, as well as some from Reading and London, attended workshops at Langley Academy in Langley Road.

The workshops were staged by the Champs of Maths (CoM) group in late March to help coach the children for the UK Mathematics Trust's Annual Mathematical Challenges.

The workshops, led by organisers Satnam Arora and Akshat Mehta, are designed to develop and sharpen kids' maths skills to get them ready.

The Junior Challenge itself, which is a written test, is set to take place on April 27 at schools across the UK. However the workshops are provided for kids at every secondary level.

Mr Arora said: "In early January Champs of Maths had organized these workshops for intermediate students.

"The results were outstanding: Three of our students won Gold, 17 won Silver, 8 won Bronze Awards.

"One received a Best in School Certificate, while three got an invitation into the trust's Maths Olympiad."
