A 19-year-old man was attacked and stabbed on Saturday in Burnham.
He was walking in Almond Road at about 10pm when he was set upon from behind by thugs, one of whom stabbed him in the thigh.
Police are appealing for help to catch the attackers, who headed on foot for Wyndham Crescent. Their victim is still in hospital.
He was unable to get a clear look at his attackers but it is believed there were two or three of them, all wearing dark clothing.
Police are treating the attack as a case of grievous bodily harm.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Luke Pratt, from Aylesbury Force CID, said: "We have launched an investigation and we are determined to identify those responsible.
"We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or any suspicious behaviour in the area. If you have any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please call Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting incident reference 43170161411."
