SIXTEEN PUPILS from two schools won an all-expenses paid trip to Cambridge University after submitting winning research projects.

The pupils, aged between 9-11 came from Lynch Hill Primary Academy in Garrard Road, Slough and Our Lady of Peace Catholic Primary School in Derwent Drive, Burnham.

They were treated to a taste of life at the university, including a debating workshop and a taster lecture in experimental psychology. They were rewarded with a certificate of their achievements and a Selwyn College Teddy bear.

The pupils, from years 5 and 6, submitted their own research projects that grappled with such difficult questions such as What is the origin of the universe?

Other winning entries of the event, which was hosted by Selwyn College, Cambridge, included such conundrums as Why do people fall in love?

The creators of the sixteen top entries, along with their families, were invited on a free trip to the celebration on Friday of last week.

Sumat Parmar, 10, from Lynch Hill School, wrote a project considering: “Is human life more important than animal life?”

“It was quite difficult to find the research, but I managed to put it into my own words” he said. “I saw something on TV about how humans came from animals – that's what inspired me”

“Cambridge was really nice – really impressive”.
