EMERGENCY services saved a man last night (Friday) during an apparent suicide attempt at a bridge over the Thames.

Thames Valley Police and fire crews were called to Bridge Road, Maidenhead around 10.16pm on Friday, August 11.

It is understood the young man was extremely upset and the road was closed while officers talked him down. The incident was safely concluded at 12.30am this morning (Saturday).

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson added: "We were called to the bridge at 10.16pm yesterday after reports of a fear for welfare of a man.

"The road was closed until about 12.30am today when police left the scene.

"The man was not injured."

Fire crews had attended in case a water rescue was required. The bridge goes over the Thames and into Taplow, South Bucks, near the new Riverside development.
