A supermarket has been granted a licence to sell alcohol despite concerns that it could fuel street drinking and anti-social behaviour.
Dilpreet Singh Arora was granted the licence for Smarts Supermarket in Upton Lea Parade at a meeting of the Slough Licensing Sub-Committee.
There were objections from a resident, who said there was already a high availability of alcohol in the Upton Lea area, and frequent street drinking from drunks that “resulted in the community feeling intimidated”.
Mr Arora said his shop would embrace the Challenge 25 scheme, and keep a record of those refused alcohol. It would also have a policy of not selling alcohol to street drinkers.
The sub-committee said cans and bottles should be marked so they can be traced back to the store.
