TWO lawyers are publishing a book about how to successfully negotiate a divorce.

The Good Divorce Guide – Facing Reality when your World is Upside Down is by Teresa Payne and Vanessa Gardiner.

Ms Payne, 50, from Windsor, is a family solicitor and the owner of the Parfitt Cresswell law firm, in Victoria Street, Windsor. Her co-author Vanessa Gardiner is the head of family services at the same firm .

Ms Payne said: “I know what it’s like to be in the midst of a divorce, in fact going through it myself is what drove me to become a lawyer and co-write this book.

“The purpose of this book is primarily to demystify divorce, and reassure people going through it that they are not alone. Although there will be difficult questions and issues that need resolving, many of the practical elements can be dealt with minimal fuss and cost.”

The book provides a range of guidance on how to negotiate the divorce process, including splitting finances, protecting your business, and domestic abuse laws. It also goes through how to ensure children have the best possible outcome from the divorce, and their welfare is looked after.

Ms Payne said: “Even under the best of circumstances, divorce is a time of stress, uncertainty and can be overwhelming – and we hope that our book will begin to address some of these factors. We go through common myths and preconceptions, and show what’s really involved.”

The book is due to be launched at Waterstones, Peascod Street, Windsor, on Thursday, September 7, between 6 to 8pm. To reserve a place, email divorceguidelaunch@parfittcresswell.com. The book will be available through Waterstones, and also through Amazon in both paperback and Kindle editions.
