A SON is helping his mother track down their long-lost family from the area.

Mary Rowell, now 93, worked alongside her sister Dorothy Rowell in Colnbrook during the Second World War.

Her sister had four children, named Bob, Allan, Yvonne, and Leslie.

However, Dorothy and her four brothers have now all passed away, leaving Mary as the only surviving sibling. She is eager to track down her sister’s children, whom she has never had any contact with.

Her son, Philip Taylor, is leading the search. He said: “My mother worked in a factory in Colnbrook, making pre-fabricated houses – she was a welder. My mother stayed in a hostel in the village that we think was just off the Old Bath Road. Dorothy lived in her own house at the bottom of the lane – we think she must have been a manager or overseer.

“I’ve just been down to Colnbrook to try and find the hostel, but nobody I spoke to could remember it. We don’t know it’s name.”

Dorothy Rowell married David Jones and the couple continued to live in the Slough area, having the four children.

Mr Taylor and his aunt Dorothy only met once in 1972. She was living in Slough at the time. He said: “All I can say, is that it was local authority housing. I remember it was a nice brown brick building. I came down to Slough and tried to find it, but I couldn’t.”

The Rowell children will now be aged in their mid-50s to 60s.

Mr Taylor said: “If anyone remembers either Dorothy and David Jones or the whereabouts of their children, Bob, Allan, Yvonne, and Leslie, I would love to speak to them.”
