SLOUGH’s new library and cultural centre, The Curve, is proving a hit with users since it was opened one year ago, new figures show.
This week the centre marked its anniversary with numerous fun events and activities and there is still a chance to catch one or two this weekend.
Slough Borough Council revealed that visits are up by 69 per cent compared to the final year at the old library site and membership is up by 59 per cent, with 8,065 new library members. In total there have been 356,258 visits to the centre, with over 211,000 items borrowed. The centre is also the registration office for the town and 4,087 births were registered in the first year as well as 168 marriages.
The Curve, which cost £22 million, was opened in early September last year so the anniversary celebrations have been left a little late.
On Friday, there is a detective CSI workshop for ages five and upwards from 10am to 4pm, with a £4 charge to pay on the day.
On Saturday, there is a Treasure Trail from 11am to 4pm - with the chance of winning free tickets to this year’s panto Aladdin. You can pick up a starting sheet from The Curve or the Queensmere Observatory on the day.
