A YOUTH charity has unveiled its latest project - a collection of real-life stories from residents who have settled in an area of Slough.

Chalvey Stories was handed out on Saturday at the Celebrate Chalvey event at the Community Centre in The Green.

It tells the stories of nine longtime residents of the area – what they remember, how Chalvey is now and their hopes for the future.

Aik Saath’s youth volunteers and workers pulled together to produce the free publication in partnership with YMCA Slough and Slough Borough Council. Around 20 teenagers conducted interviews with the selected personalities, including Iqbal Abdeali, owner of Chalvey Supermarket, businesswoman Yasmine Ali and town youth worker, Giovanni Ferri. Jemma Zaveri, 23, youth worker for Aik Saath, said: “We wanted real stories from real people - not those who had come and gone - people who were really involved in the community.

“We thought it was needed because we were going to get the community together anyway and we could say ‘look guys this is what we have done and this is what we have found out’.”

Copies of Chalvey Stories will be available around Slough, including The Curve and Aik Saath’s offices in Church Street. The project also received lottery funding.
