Wildlife photographer Tom Way found a novel way of getting a close up shot of a lion - and the result was on view at the weekend's Contemporary Art Fair at Windsor racecourse.

Mr Way, 29, from Iver, specialises in photographing wild animals, spending two to three months each year in Kenya. He explained how he got one arresting shot of a lion that was on display.

The ex-Windsor Boys School pupil said: "I just opened the car door and let it get close enough, shutting it pretty quick at the last moment.

"I love travel and I love wildlife so I have managed to combine both."

More than 4,000 visitors came to the art fair at Windsor Racecourse in Maidenhead Road this year to view and discuss 160 artists' works.

Laura Thompson, 28, who is about to move from Slough to Eton Wick was displaying her paintings in emulsion and marker pen.

She has built up a gallery of celebrity pictures, created to order for people who want to hang them up at home.

Albert Einstein's face peered out from among rock stars like Bowie and Liam Gallagher.

She said: "One pub landlord wanted Einstein, the Eiffel Tower and a cow. I gave him all three."

Mother of two Stephanie Gay, 49, from Maidenhead discovered the joy of painting on silk when she attended a course in Devon and specialises in landscapes and birds - winning the Berks and Bucks Life Landscape Painter of the Year award form 2017.

She said: "I love birds and their movements make them ideal for capturing in silk."

Deborah James of Windsor Events, founders and organisers of the Art Fair for the past 12 years, said: “This year was possibly the best fair yet, especially in terms of sales. With a bigger venue, people had plenty of room to stand back and really appreciate each artist’s work. We were delighted that so many attended this year – both serious art collectors and those who were curious to find out more about contemporary art.”

Among the visitors were Governor of Windsor Castle Sir James Perowne KBE, Olympic gold medallist Marlon Devonish and the Royal Borough's mayor and mayoress Cllr John Lenton and Margaret Lenton.
