A YOUNG GIRL has donated dozens of vital supplies to the homeless, after putting ‘help the homeless’ on her birthday list.

The birthday wish of Inayah Ashfaq, seven, lead to her and her mother working alongside a charity, the Slough-based Al-Zohra Educational Trust, to make it happen in readiness for the cold winter months.

Her mother, Ruksana Khalid, 34, of Burnham, said: “I was quite surprised, since most kids just want toys. I went to the charity to get this all to work, and to help pack it up and take it to the shelters.”

Inayah, who attends Priory School in Orchard Avenue, Burnham, created 17 care packages filled with items like scarves, socks, blankets, canned food and toiletries for the homeless of Slough and Maidenhead.

Mrs Khalid said: “In the boxes were things like shampoo, toothpaste, canned food and mince pies. The charity helped us pack it all up.

“She wasn’t allowed in to the shelters to deliver them due to health and safety, and she was a bit upset about that. But all the donations were made in her name.

“Me and her dad are very proud, and very surprised that she thought like that - that she wasn’t selfish or thinking about herself.

“I think she’s proud of herself too - she’s very excited, and has told her school and her friends.”

The donations were taken to homeless shelters in Slough and Maidenhead on Friday, December 22.
