Eton's historic High Street burst with life on Sunday - as the people of the town banished their post royal wedding blues by holding a celebration street party the day after the big event.

There was no sign of left over Saturday hangovers as townspeople took their seats at tables laid out across the length of the High Street.

Cars were banned from the usually busy street from early morning until late in the evening.

Eton Community Association organised it all with the blessing - and sponsorship - of Eton College.

It gave a whole new meaning to the town's famous college buildings, as 636 people enjoyed the sight of them from a totally different angle seated in the middle of the road.

They were watched enviously by members of the public walking by who were not part of the party.

The traffic ban enabled the festivities to last well into the warm spring evening.

There was entertainment in the form of the Burnham based Pop Goes the Choir, the ladies' ukulady band the Ukuladies Plus One, magician Dean Leavy and balloon artist Dali Balloono.

Chasing Deer sang catchy and upbeat pop songs.

The organisers had the same good fortune with the weather as the royal couple had the day before.

The street parties have become a regular feature in Eton whenever a royal event such as the Queen's Jubilee comes along.
