MORE council houses are to be built, as plans to correct the current shortfall proceed.

Slough Borough Council is looking to take advantage of a number of small sites, including unused garages, vacant building plots, and a disused doctors surgery to create 25 new homes, which are set to be completed by spring 2019.

The homes will be a mixture of permanent and temporary accommodation, including some wheelchair-accessible bungalows.

Work has already begun at Fox Road, Langley, where six new flats will be built on the site of a derelict garage, and at Pendeen Court, Tamarisk Way, Slough, where a garage and a store were demolished to make way for five new flats.

Further development is to take place in Brook Path, Moreton Way, Mansel Close and Trelawney Avenue. This is the third phase of the council’s plans., which has already seen a number of developments carried out across the town - with 130 new homes to be built in total.

Cllr Mohammed Nazir said: “These six small sites, in addition to the six in phase two and the four in phase one, are the reality of our strategy to utilise small plots of land – garages, derelict properties and infill – to provide desperately needed, quality council homes for the people of our town.

"I am really pleased this set of small sites also includes temporary accommodation as this shows our commitment to the £18million set aside in our budget in the coming year for this type of the most-needed housing.”
