FIREFIGHTERS have tackled three acres of burning scrubland in a park.
Three fire engines from Slough and Langley fire stations, in addition to a specialist off-road vehicle from Maidenhead, were called out to Upton Court Park at 12.30 today (Tuesday) to reports of a large area of scrubland on fire.
Firefighters worked for over two hours to contain the fire, which covered an area near the M4 motorway and BMX track, using hose reels from their engines.
A spokesman from Langley Fire Station urged residents to refrain from littering, especially during the current heatwave.
The spokesman said, "In this hot weather, discarded cigarette butts are a major risk. Even discarded water bottles with a little water inside them have been known to cause fires – the sunlight gets focused through them and sets the grass alight. Always take your litter home with you."
