A new look, bigger scale Langley Carnival brought snakes, eagles, vintage cars and other exciting new attractions to the village on Saturday.

It was the biggest event in the carnival's 44 year history.

Elizabeth Barnett joined the Langley Carnival Association over twenty years ago when she was the secretary of her son’s football club which was chosen as a beneficiary.

She said: “For many years visitors have enjoyed tombolas, raffles, homemade cake sales but this year we are thrilled to be able to offer a petting farm, a falconry display and an urban safari for the first time thanks to the Shanly Foundation’s contribution.”

The Shanly Foundation – the charitable arm of the Shanly Group of companies – had given £1,500 to the committee so that it could offer something new and exciting to festival-goers. The Urban Safari organisation brings weird and wonderful animals and reptiles directly to schools and events like the Langley Carnival for children to learn from. It was a popular attraction at the carnival.

For car lovers there was a vintage vehicle competition judged by the mayor Cllr Paul Sohal - won by Mike Hill in his 1931 Morris Minor Dropside Truck.

There was a children's football tournament - climaxing with a match between the victorious Golden Eagles and Langley Hornets.

Entertainment was provided by members of Colnbrook Amateur Stage Theatre (CAST), who staged an amazing football game in animal costumes before singing some of the songs they are performing all this week in their show Musical Generations at Colnbrook Village Hall.

There were a wide range of stalls from local community groups including scouts, guides and football clubs, allowing them to raise money for their own causes.

The main beneficiaries of the carnival will be Langley Hornets Football Club and SPICE (Special People on ICE), a volunteer-led charity based in Slough which teaches children and young adults with additional needs to ice skate.

Now with the carnival thriving again more committee members would be welcome. You can contact Mrs Barnett on 01752 539024 if you are interested.
