A WRITERS group is marking the end of a successful year with poetry and prize-giving.
Slough Writers ended its 2017-18 academic year on July 16, with an evening of presentations and prizes.
At the Annual General Meeting, the chairman, Terry Adlam, praised the triumphs of the group's members, who have seen writing success in print, on stage, and online.
Mr Adlam then presented the group's annual awards. Robert Kibble was named 'Writer of the Year', while Edward Harte picked up the 'Taylor Award', for services to the group. Jenny Downing claimed the 'New Writer Award' and Harvey Martin won the 'Sandy Lee-Guard Award for Endeavour.'
This was followed by the awards for the annual poetry competition, which was judged by the Suffolk-based Halesworth Library Writing Group. This year's theme was 'plastic', which inspired a range of subjects and styles. The winning poem, 'Memory', by Lee Taylor, looked at a soldier suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The next meeting will be held at 7.30pm on September 3 at The Palmer Arms, Dorney. Any aspiring writings interested in joining should visit www.sloughwriters.org.uk for more details.
