Police have confirmed that a body was retrieved from the Jubilee River half an hour ago.

They are not confirming the identity of the man.

But fears had been growing for the safety of a man who disappeared after entering the Jubilee River near the weir at Windsor Road, Slough last night.

Thames Valley police went to the scene at 7.30pm after receiving reports that a man - believed to be in his early 20s - was in difficulties.

The man was with a group of friends and was not seen to get out of the river.

Police and firefighters worked closely along the riverbank to try and find the man.

Inspector Michelle Kneale, based at Maidenhead police station, said: “I would also like to remind everyone not to swim in the river – there is a weir in this part and the currents are extremely dangerous. As tempting as it may be in the warmer weather, rivers contain hazards below the water’s surface which sometimes cannot be seen, so I would urge everyone to always think carefully about staying safe.”
