A CHARITY golf day in the memory of a young girl was a great success.

On Saturday, over 300 people converged on Richings Park Golf Club, North Park, Iver, for a day of fund-raising golf.

The event was held in the memory of Freya Gerrish, of Slough, who died aged three and a half in February this year due to meningitis. The funds raised from the event were donated to the charity Meningitis Now, that works to help fund research into the disease.

One of the organisers, Zara Smith, said: "It was a great day with the men playing golf and the kids enjoying themselves with activities such as the bouncy castles, hair plaiting, cross bar challenge, penalties, face paintings, cakes, ice-cream and sweet stalls. We also had over 100 raffle prizes, which were all donated by local businesses, friends and family.

"I am so happy to announce that we made a staggering £10,000 for Meningitis Now. We had a representative from Meningitis Now attend to talk to us and explain the importance of the work they do, not only into research of meningitis but also helping people who have been affected by this terrible illness."

Ms Smith urged residents to learn more about Meningitis so it can be caught in its earliest stages.

Ms Smith said: "We really want to get our message out to as many people as possible, so they are aware of what Meningitis is and can spot the signs quickly, so no other families have to go through what we have."
