A MAN has been prosecuted for fly-tipping, thanks to an observant member of the public.

Naveed Ahmed, 51, of Chalvey, Slough, pleaded guilty to fly-tipping waste by the side of Thompkins Lane, Farnham Royal, on October 24, 2017.

The court was told that another driver on Thompkins Lane had noticed Ahmed acting suspiciously, and made a note of the vehicle's number plate. Later, the driver saw he saw two black plastic bin sacks filled with bricks and sand dumped on the side of the road, where Ahmed had been parked.

Ahmed was interviewed by the police, where he admitted to dumping the sacks. He said he was a taxi driver and had travelled to Thompkins Lane to return a customer's mobile phone left in the taxi the previous day. He then realised that he had waste in his boots, and decided to dump it at the side of the road.

The magistrates fined Ahmed £923, giving him credit for an early guilty plea. He was also ordered to pay £773 costs and a £92 victim surcharge. The total amount due was therefore £1,788.

Cllr Luisa Sullivan of South Bucks District Council said: "This case demonstrates the vital part the public play in helping our enforcement officers bring prosecutions against fly tippers. I'd ask anyone who sees fly tipping taking place to note details of the vehicle and report the incident to our officers at www.fixmystreet.buckscc.gov.uk"
