THE 46th Woodcote Rally comes steaming into town this weekend.

The celebration of vintage and veteran transport will have fun for all the family, with crafts, wildlife, live bands, a fun fair and the famous Festival of Ale.

As the final preparations come together, organiser Andy Crockett said: 'The fair has now arrived and we"re really starting to get there. The marker posts for the tractors, cars and other vehicles lines are now in place and taping up will take place towards the end of the week.

'We have 35 full-size steam engines booked to attend, of which 10 are new engines that have never visited Woodcote before. Four of the engines are the only known survivors of their type.

'It promises to be one of the best selection and variety of steam engines ever assembled at Woodcote.'

One item sure to get biking enthusiasts talking is a 1953 Royal Enfield 500. The bike took part in a famous International Six-Day-Trial event in the former Czechoslovakia, ridden by Johnny Brittain (corr) on his way to team and individual glory for Team GB.

• The Woodcote Rally takes place this weekend (July 11/12) off the A4074 Woodcote Road, eight miles outside Reading.
