Schoolboy prepares for adventure in Himalayas

A DAREDEVIL 11-year-old is bracing himself for an amazing adventure this summer when he will take part in a gruelling trek across the Himalayas.

While many of his pals will be sunning themselves on the beach, Joseph Chadwell will be travelling nearly 16,000ft up the mountains near the Indian and Tibetan border.

He will battle with monsoon rains and landslides as he travels to remote parts of the region, and will only get to call his home in Parlaunt Road, Langley once during the expedition.

He said: 'I"m really excited because I love mountains. A lot of people say I"m brave but I think it"ll be a great adventure.

'I"m not keen on the food but I"m sure the people will be really friendly and I"ll cope. But I will miss my mum a lot.'

The Langley Manor School pupil will jet off for the three-week journey from Friday, July 31, and will be guided under the watchful eye of his dad Chris - a scientist who has visited the mountain range 23 times and even spent his honeymoon in the Himalayas.

The duo will rest their heads in basic hotels and camp underneath the stars when they reach more remote areas.

But instead of relaxing after the trek, Joseph will be busy completing homework in preparation for September when he will start at Slough Grammar School.

Mr Chadwell said his son is well equipped for the epic journey as he did a trek in Nepal during October 2007 and 3,000 ft up the Tryfan in Wales this year.

He added: 'I am looking at this as a good bonding experience before he becomes a teenager and starts preferring going out to parties over treks.'

The family are so fanatical about the Himalayas that they have bought back plants from the mountains for their own garden.

The duo will raise cash for the The British Nepal Medical Trust which provides medical treatment in Nepal.
