ARTWORK by children in three Slough schools took centre stage at a London exhibition.

Pupils from year-10 at Langley Grammar, year-nine at Arbour Vale Specialist Sports College and year-10 at St Bernard"s School were among 10 schools who took part in the SEGRO Young Artists 2009 competition around the theme of "the world of work".

The art, ranging from digital to textiles, sculpture, photography and drawing, was displayed at the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts (RSA) in London.

The annual initiative is designed to inspire and develop young people"s talent for art, with the exhibition the culmination of six months activity involving the school children and artists Dionne Barber and Bálint Bolygó.

During the exhibition finale work created by pupils at Arbour Vale was among that purchased by SEGRO to display in its international offices.

Ian Coull Chief Executive of SEGRO, said: 'Creativity and innovation, whether in business or in the arts, is crucial to success, yet is often easily overlooked in the pursuit of more traditional forms of academic achievement. This initiative is designed to help pupils redress this balance, and to realise the artistic potential that could otherwise go unnoticed.'
