TRAFFIC was brought to a stand-still in Uxbridge Road after two horses made a break for freedom using the busy dual carriageway.

Police were called to the scene at approximately 12.30pm yesterday (Wednesday) after receiving a dozen calls from concerned motorists who saw the distressed horses run the length of the road during a 90 minute fiasco.

Uxbridge Road resident Ansar Shah, who took the photos after witnessesing the commotion, said: 'The horses looked very frightened and I was worried that the situation could have become very dangerous.

"A few of us tried to calm the horses down but they seemed as though they just wanted to get away from everyone.'

Motorists and officers were eventually able to guide the creatures to a nearby field by 12.50pm only to discover that they were back on the road at 1.30pm.

A spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police said: 'The horses were eventually herded back to a field for a second time. The owner was contacted and the horses were safely taken away.'

The road was clear by 2pm.
