Tough challenge set by military charity
A MILITARY charity has come up with a 131 mile challenge to raise money for wounded armed forces personnel and bereaved families.
Project 65, based in Iver Heath, has organised the Forces March where teams will complete the five marathons in five days from Thursday, May 27 until Monday, May 31. The route will cover from North Devon to Wiltshire.
Danny Greeno, Chairman of Project 65, said: "I first had the idea for the Forces March around two years ago. Our first challenge event, the Run to Pegasus, was such an overwhelming success that we decided to try and create something even bigger.
"The Forces March fits perfectly with our ethos of uniting civilians with the military to promote the efficiency of the armed forces as well as presenting a very demanding challenge."
The 'Mark Hale Trophy' is the prize for the outright winning team, named after Captain Mark Hale of 2nd Btn The Rifles Regiment who was killed while trying to save the life of another soldier in Afghanistan in August.
Money raised will go to The Royal British Legion, British Limbless Ex-Service Men's Association (BLESMA), St Dunstan's, RAF Benevolent Fund, Army Benevolent Fund and Help for Heroes.
