A woman from Slough jailed in an American prison has been brought back to the UK to finish her sentence.
Chantal McCorkle was visited by the town's MP Fiona Mactaggart at Holloway Prison in London yesterday. (Monday)
The Observer and Miss Mactaggart have along with family campaigned for her return to this country.
In 1998 Chantal who was brought up and went to school in Slough was sentenced to 24 years in jail for offences related to a scheme led by her American husband which promoted ways of getting rich from government land sales and used misleading advertisements.
The sentence which even the judge deemed to be harsh led to a campaign to bring Chantal home.
She is now back behind bars but could be released within a year under UK law.
Yesterday, Chantal said: "Please thank everyone that hasn't given up and helped bring me back. The people who have supported me and believed in me have helped keep me going and finally allowed me to come back home."
She particularly mentioned the support she has received from the Observer.

Its about time too, I knew Chantal before she left for America and she was such a lovely, trusting, and warm person, maybe her downfall, but I am truly glad she is back home.

The McCorkles sold kits purporting to show buyers how to get rich by buying property in foreclosures and government auctions. They advertised on infomercials; among the grounds for their conviction was their representation in the infomercials that they owned luxury automobiles and airplanes (actually rented for the commercials), and their use of purported testimonials from satisfied customers, who were actually paid actors
Your back home but you were arrested for fraud and fleecing many people out of their money and pensions.
You deserved to go to prison. I hope you learned your lesson, however there are people still left without money because of you and your husband.

Welcome home!! I've been following this story since the beginning.
Americans need a good slap. Their lives are ruled by money - money is power and with it goes corruption and the people who sent her to jail are the worst offenders! Kill someone, likely some jail time; convicted of stealing money and you can go to jail for the rest of your life!
Their system of punishment is way out of proportion and completely unrealistic.
The last two trips to the States that my wife and I took, they treated us like terrorists at the airport (my wife's a teacher, I'm a journalist). I mean really intimidating stuff and nearly everybody we met was keen to get as much money out of us as possible.
America - you can keep it! The land of the free? My a**e!!

This woman was no victim. She helped her husband commit a massive fraud against hundreds of people. NEVER have I heard her express in her woe-is-me website that she was ever SORRY for anyone but herself. Now she's conning you. Had she not been caught she'd still be living her extravagent lifestyle at the expense of all the people she cheated. Good riddance. You are no victim Chantal!

David i read about the sad story about your gran a while back.
I truely believe it is horrid what this woman did to all those poor victims and her sentence should be served in full.
I cannot believe that the observer has been supporting her, i and many of my friends think the Observer should be totally ashamed of themselves.
And the reporter who wrote this needs to go to grammar school !! Terrible.

I used to sleep with chantal while she was engaged and had no idea she was seeing someone. Imagine my shock. Then imagine my shock when 3 years later i heard on the news the scam story and there she was!!!!!!!!!
She certainly is able to act all sweet and innocent but beneath lies a demon.

Funny how my post of truth about what she did to my gran has magically dissapeared and all the comments that were written by others about the reporters poor grammar and the fact the Observer are supporting this evil woman.

My Story will be appearing in February in the Daily mail as well as stories and accounts from other people that Chantal had conned. She did a lot of the work, not just her husband. You will all see how evil this woman is.
I am not allowed to say any more about what she did but the evidence for the first time has been made wholly available to the victims ,13th feb Purchase the daily mail to all of you that are over there in the UK.

Outrageous that anyone should allow her out of prison.She should be made to serve her full sentence. I only hope that her victims speak out and ensure she does not become set free.

What is wrong with you all - people get treated better & serve less time for murder!
False advertising happens alot, look at Cheryl Cole's L'Oreal advert - she is advertising a volumising shampoo & she is very obviously wearing extensions!So if I were to buy this product would my hair be like hers? No! Would I get eyelashes like the ones advertised by mascara companies? No, of course not they are wearing false ones!

This woman robbed in broad daylight people who had spent their whole lives working and saving money and destroyed them, some to early graves.

I have followed Chantal's case for some time via the internet and found some of the comments above deeply shocking. I admit to not being fully persuaded that Chantal was innocent but I am certain there are some pretty sick people in Berkshire!
I am surprised that the Observer does not moderate some of the evil rambling from some of the contributors ( Mo for example). I am all for free speech but her/his comment borders on the obscene.

Ok so afterreading up on more information on Chantali must admit to now feeling totally disgusted by her and her husband's actions.I would not expect herto be welcome back in Berkshire or anywhere near.
I'm not sure she should be forced to serve the full 18 years remaining but at least maybe half of that. Wicked and greedy so it appears.

I could have reported the above comment but feel it more appropriate to say that the above was not posted by me. As I said in my original post, I have read a great deal about Chantal's case and am still a little uncertain regarding her guilt.
However, what is clear is that if this offence had been committed in this country, she would have been very unlucky to have been given a custodial sentence at all, never mind 24 years!
We do not send murders to prison for that length of time im many cases. Incidently, neither do the Americans - hence the concerns voiced even in the US at the time of the trial
For the information of the person who impersonated me Chantal has served over 50% of the subsequently reduced sentence of 18 years and I do not live anywhere near Berkshire so why should I worry about her living there.
Lastly - how was it that my impersonator was not identified as such by the the email address used?

I am delighted to see Chantel finally home, no matter how innocent or guilty she is I feel she has paid the price and now deserves to be free. She was very young at the time of her crime and tell me which of you would not have done the same. So get off your moral high horse and let the girl have a second chance in life.
