HEARTLESS vandals have broken into a sheltered housing complex and caused damage in the lounge and kitchen, even having the cheek to eat the residents' food.
One or more intruders accessed the communal areas of Lilac Court in Rokesby Road, Britwell between Wednesday and Thursday last week, where they set about their destruction.
They caused damage to a door and the carpet, food was left strewn around, they helped themselves to food from the kitchen and stole a DVD player and speakers from the lounge of the complex for about 60 elderly residents.
The police priority crime team is investigating the incident which was discovered by a cleaner when she came into work at about 7.40am on Thursday last week.
Sgt Tony Welch, neighbourhood sergeant for Britwell, said: "Our PCSOs visited the residents on Friday at their tea session. The same will happen on Monday (today). Slough Borough Council's community wardens are doing likewise. Our Crime Reduction Adviser Annie Tewksbury has done a crime reduction survey of the premises and has made recommendations to Anchor Housing with regards to upgrading door security and CCTV."

I know one of the Lilac Court residents very well. Fortunately she is in hospital at present and was not there during this break in. It must be very frightening for anyone (elderly or not) to have their living space violated by mindless vandals. Surely it is time for the managers of Lilac Court to appoint 24-hour wardens and CCTV cameras in the public areas. To the best of my knowledge there is no warden on site after 5pm in the evening and certainly not before 8.00am. This is not appropriate for sheltered accommodation where the residents pay a service charge.

my grandmother's house was broken into once and it had a devastating effect on her and us. its a disgraceful thing for anyone to do. if they catch these thugs i hope they receive a decent stretch and not just a community service order. community service is only ever any good when it involves learning something about what you have done. in fact i believe that education about the effects of your particular crime should be a part of the prison system as standard.
to pick on some of the most vulnerable people in society shows a disturbing lack of empathy for other human beings which could only lead to worse crimes if not corrected properly. this i fear is what is wrong with the judicial system in the UK at present.

It's a sick world we live in today! No doubt when the Police manage to track down the culprits they will be offered a trip to Disney World Florida to help them get over the stress of committing such a crime... That or they will go to a prison fitted with HD TV's, Sky TV & Games Consoles. Whilst the honest folk struggle in life, criminals seem to be getting an easy life! No doubt next week we will be hearing how the yobs who did this are sueing the care home because the food they stole was out of date and made them ill. The sad truth is they would probably win if they did, the law seems to be doing more to protect criminals these days!
