MORE than £1million is being spent to covert unused garage sites in Slough into family homes.
Slough Borough Council has received £1,089,000 from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to build the 18 houses on seven sites in Britwell and Wexham.
The homes will be built for social rented housing and the development will start in April with Paradigm Housing Group as the Registered Social Landlord.
Commissioner for neighbourhoods and renewal, Cllr James Swindlehurst, added: "With a long housing waiting list, providing additional homes is of paramount importance. We have already provided over 400 hundred new homes in the last two years, and we are committed to providing more. This funding is great news, and means that more disused garage sites will be redeveloped into much needed homes, not only removing surplus garages but also the anti-social behaviour and fly tipping that all too often gathers around these sites."
The houses will be divided into the following sizes:
- 9x3 bed
- 7x4 bed
- 1x5 bed
- 1x2 bed
These developments follow other garages sites turned into houses in Britwell at Egerton Rd, Gascons Grove and Chilwick Road.

I'd guess a large family who wouldn't mind living amongst a high concentration of thieves, burglars, vandals, drug users, drug pushers...........

however, when there arent enough larger houses to go around, councils end up putting very big families into privately rented housing which can cost an enormous amount to the taxpayer. remember the cases in the tabloids over the past year? where families on housing benefit were living in houses worth over a million?
