Low turnout for discussion on Britwell future

A COMMUNITY discussion on the Britwell Regeneration Scheme has been met with apathy after only a fraction of the anticipated number of residents attended a special meeting.
Less than 50 residents trickled in through the doors of the Britwell Community Centre in Long Furlong Drive last night (Wednesday) to raise their concerns about the project with Cllr James Swindlehurst.
Britwell ward coucillor and event organiser, Patrick Shine, admitted that the turnout was less than he had hoped for, but claimed it came as no surprise.
He said: "I was quite disappointed at the number of people who turned up for the meeting but I am not surprised that there is apathy because residents here feel as though their voices are not heard by the council.
"Many people get the feeling that the council is already treating this as a foregone conclusion. For those who did attend, they were given the chance to air their views and concerns, as well as put forward their own suggestions.
"I hope that everything discussed was taken on board by Cllr Swindlehurst, and that the council will now work more closely with the ward councillors and the residents."
The biggest concern for residents is the transfer of the current shops in Wentworth Avenue to a new site in Kennedy Park.

A suggestion to Cllr Shine. If you organise a community meeting, try advertising it to residents. They may turn up if they are aware it is taking place.
