CRIME in Slough continues fall, according to police statistics.

Supt Shead insisted that Slough's reputation for crime was far worse that actual statistics, which showed an 8.7 per cent drop in overall crime in the last year, meaning that the number of victims had fallen from 17,442 to 15,924.

Crimes such as burglary and robbery have seen the biggest dip, dropping 13 per cent, but violent crime and assault still remained an increasing problem especially with a recent increase in gang-related activity, which police have dealt with in a series of operations.

Figures also revealed that community confidence in the police, especially among ethnic minorities, had seen a sharp rise, going up six points to 64 per cent.

Supt Shead said: "We have closed the disparity rate between white people and ethnic minorities considerably and the figures are now neck and neck. That is a fantastic achievement in a town with such cultural diversity."

Does anyone believe this rubbish anymore? I reported a crime this morning, the officer who took my statement said and i quote " the goverment figures on crime are so far from the reality, the recession is having a serious impact, if they want it they take it" believe what you want to, however, it's going to get alot worse before it gets better.

i think one problem is that many petty crimes, which are not so petty when commented in high numbers, are being re-titled as antisocial behaviour and handled using ASBO's rather than criminal prosecution. antisocial behaviour and ASBO's are very handy for crime statistics - as an ASBO is not applied for and 'tried' in a criminal court. they are only treated as criminal once the ASBO is breached and often you have to be antisocial for some time before an ASBO is even applied for. now, what is it we have a serious problem with in slough....antisocial behaviour.

then also so many petty crimes never reach investigation level. when you are given a number after reporting a crime this is not the same as a crime number. it is simply a number used to register that a crime has been reported. and reporting a crime is not the same as a crime being prooven, so it wont be added to the final tally.

i would imagine few of us who speak to police offficers regularly believe the level of crime is reducing, and neither do the police we talk to.

Crime fallen? it's getting worse day by day in slough. and i'm starting to get scared just to walk to the shops in DAYLIGHT! it's not falling, slough had to write this as many people are getting concern and hearing about the shootings at the bus station is very worrying. also hearing about people i went school with in court and all sorts of trouble is becoming very worrying for the comunity. The worse thing is that it's not only youths and thats the only thing police are concern about is YOUTH! you get forign adults comming crimes. i go to college in reading and i feel a lot safer.

In October i went to watch my supported team Watford FC play Reading and i felt 100% safe walking alone at night as in slough i would be running home!
