ENVIRONMENTALLY conscious residents in Slough have recycled more than 14,000 tonnes of material in the last year.
Statistics from Slough Borough Council reveal that a total 14,876.6 tonnes of recyclable goods have been put through the red bins - amounting to more than 120kg per sperson.
One recycled bottle or jar saves enough energy to run a computer for 25 minutes, meaning that residents have saved enough energy to run a computer for more than 120 years.
Rob Anderson, leader of the council, said: "I am delighted to see that Slough has embraced recycling, and in doing so has doubled the amount of waste recycled.
"Our aim with the red bins was to make them clear, and simple enough that residents could make recycling part of their everyday routine, and these figures show exactly that."
The collections can be broken down into:
- 623 tonnes of plastic bottles
- 312 tonnes of cans
- 4,211 tonnes of paper and card
- 1,368 tonnes of glass
