Man charged with 1987 rape
A MAN has been charged with a rape that happened in Slough in 1987.
Donald William Robertson, aged 54, will appear in Slough Magistrates Court on Friday to face face one charge of kidnap and one charge of rape.
Robertson was arrested by officers from Thames Valley Police's Major Crime Review Team (MCRT) at an address in Cambridgeshire today (Wednesday).
In June 1987, a 17-year-old girl was walking along Bath Road in Slough in the early hours of the morning.
She was approached by a man on foot who had what the victim thought to be a gun or a knife in his pocket.
She attempted to escape by trying to flag down a passing car but was unsuccessful and was forced into a parked car and driven off. She was then raped.
Det Supt Barry Halliday, Head of the MCRT, said: "Thames Valley Police are committed to the careful review and re-investigation of unsolved historic serious sexual assault and homicide cases.
"A dedicated team of experts analyse and assess the cases, applying where appropriate new police powers and advances in technology and forensic science.
"This group of officers from the MCRT, together with our partners, remain dedicated in our commitment for ensuring the very highest of standards of investigation are maintained in seeking justice for victims.
"Our neighbourhoods need to be assured that Thames Valley Police examine all such unsolved crimes and this latest case is one of a significant number of cases being developed."
